I’m thrilled to be able to spend the month of April in residence at Popps Packing, an artist‐run, neighborhood‐based nonprofit organization, gallery and artist residency located on the Hamtramck/Detroit border. While in residence, I will be continuing work on an a significant expansion of Portraits of Home as part of my awarded 2026 creative research sabbatical.
RESIDENCY MISSION
Founded in 2012, Popps Packing is a former meat-packing plant located on the Hamtramck/Detroit border, a vibrant and diverse area known for its working-class roots. The space has welcomed over 100 artists and is recognized for its commitment to fostering a creative and inclusive environment. Popps Packing supports artistic practice through both resources and a unique community-driven atmosphere. Popps’ mission is to create impactful arts programming and foster cultural exchange between local and international artist communities, while leveraging the unique features of our region, neighborhood, and personal practices. Our programs include a robust residency program that welcomes national and international artists into our community, seasonal exhibitions, workshops, artist talks and community events.
